The words in the block quote aren't mine, but Peat's. I was trying to draw out a point from that quote -- namely, the one I made in the last paragraph. While I agree with your statement ("fiction reveals patterns within the unconscious mind"), I was trying to go beyond that by getting at the interplay between our actual experiences and our willingness to suspend disbelief while reading a fictional plot.

you already answered it in your block-quote, why make it more complex?
fiction reveals patterns within the unconscious mind by accompanying them in the writing. matter finished.

We have been working on a product called eduslide for the last year, and we will be launching it as open source in July 2008. It is an LCMS as moodle is, but concentrates more on the creation side. We've also created a lot of free content for school subjects, covering mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, geography etc, as well as offering the first 3 chapters of VTC IT courses (about 12,000 screencasts).
I'd be interested in constructive feedback so we can make the product better.

Best of luck in the SI, Nate. I found it to be the second-most important and helpful professional development activity in my nine years of teaching (just behind getting my masters degree). Hope yours is as wonderful. Will you be blogging about your learning as you go through? That would be interesting to follow.

Thanks not only for putting your ideas out there but including such a tast reading list afterwards. I've wanted to read Clueless in Academe as well as Beyond the Culture Wars. Also, I'm doing the Puget Sound version of the NWP this August and I'm psyched to see how it goes.

Nate Stearnss last blog post..<a href="http://lazyteacher.edublogs.org/2008/06/26/teacher-on-the-screen/" rel="nofollow">Teacher on the Screen</a>
