Sicheii Yazhi [si-CHAY YA-zhee] is a nickname given to me by a DinĂ© medicine man named Mike. It means “little grandfather.” The left header image is Regensburg, my father’s hometown. The right header image is Chaco canyon.
I write on this blog in order to record and share my experiences, to better understand my own thinking, to offer my perspective on issues that are important to me, and to learn from others through comments or off-blog reactions. I’m constantly seeking balance, clarity, and insight wherever I can find it. I’m fascinated with the meta and the liminal.
The topics I tend to write about usually fit in one or more of these categories:
- Asides: random notes that don’t really fit anywhere else
- Creative: notes on reading (things I’m reading, literary criticism), writing (things I’m writing, the writing process and writing life), film (things I’m watching, film criticism/theory, or scriptwriting), genre theory and studies, comics, gaming, etc.
- Cultural: notes on folklore, philosophy, religion, consciousness, etc.
- Educational: notes on education, literacy and reading/writing instruction, the role of technology (particularly as it relates to the teaching of writing or to online safety and identity), school reform, the affective domain and role of the environment, links to cognitive sciences, and research
My mini-bio will tell you more about me if you’re interested.
