About
This blog is …
… an online notebook
This blog is a way for me to make myself spend some time thinking about things that are important to me, so the writing is mainly to and for myself. I make it public in the off chance that some of it will be interesting or helpful to someone else.
… a motivational trick
I also share some of my creative works here. This is mainly to keep me from being a lazy procrastinator.
… open for comments
Your comments are welcomed and appreciated, even if you’re calling me a fool.
… a sandbox
I play with ideas here, so what I write today I may disavow tomorrow. I also like to play with web layouts and tech tools, and I’ve played with lots of layouts and organizational schemes on this site. I’ll probably continue to do so and jump around online trying out new services.
… not an edublog
I first started blogging when I was a high-school English teacher, so my posts centered around English instruction and education in general. I’m no longer a classroom teacher, but I’m still interested in and concerned about the same issues. Still, I no longer consider this an “edublog.”
I am …
… a former teacher
I taught English and creative writing at a fine arts high school in northern Virginia for nine years. I also served as the Technology Liaison for the Northern Virginia Writing Project for seven years. I still help with their tech needs and give a few presentations.
… a current trainer and web-content developer
Currently, I work for a company that contracts with the Children’s Bureau to design and deliver trainings and help manage their online content.
… interested in things
As the categories here suggest, I’m interested in education, literacy, creative writing, film, comics, genre studies (particularly horror/dark fantasy), folklore, religion/metaphysics, and philosophy. What the categories don’t tell you: hiking, photography, gaming, Frisbee, finding cool towns, and good food, good beer, and good wine.
