Evolutionary Theories of God

Mar 4th, 2007 | By Eric Hoefler | Category: Folklore/Philosophy

If you haven’t already seen it, there’s a great article in the New York Times’ Magazine called “Darwin’s God.” It spells out the various sides of an ongoing scientific debate about why religious beliefs are so pervasive across time and culture. It’s long, but well worth the read.

Here’s my diigo highlights and annotations.

  1. Ohhh I just quoted something from Scott Atran in my latest blog. :) I really like his style, he sounds like he knows what he’s talking about, and he’s informed about many subjects that relate to religion. I especially like his approach towards things in the Middle East. He’s not biased, and he’s got first hand data/info.

I finally started writing about what I said I’d write about…Please visit my page when you get a chance. And you can post a link to it from our former “discussion” if you’d like…I’d like to get some feedback on my “criticism”, it forces me think about things I wouldn’t consider otherwise.

I wonder if Joseph Campbell would get involved in these discussions if he were alive. :)
    Cheers!
